The Town of Edinburg provides refuse, reuse and recycling services to Edinburg residents. John Olmstead is in charge of the collection program and facility.

The Recycling, Reuse and Refuse Collection Center hours are:
Friday 9:00am to 3:00pm May through October.
Friday 12:00 to 3:00 pm November through April.
Saturday 9:00am to 3:00pm.
*Closed Saturday, July 4th
*Closed Day after Thanksgiving Friday, Nov. 27th

 

Refuse Collection
The Town of Edinburg collects household refuse at roadside each week.  The North Shore Road side of the lake is collected on Monday and the South Shore Road side on Tuesday.  Refuse must be in a can no larger than 33 gallons or bagged and placed  in a wire mesh bin. Bins may NOT be more than 40" from the ground to the top. Garbage may NOT be placed in loose bags at roadside.  All garbage must be in clear or white bags and placed in cans. Or wire mesh bin. No loose garbage may be placed in can, including cat litter, dog waste or diapers. Garbage not bagged in cans will not be collected.  Garbage that contains mandatory recyclables will not be collected.  Cans must be placed at roadside no earlier than 5pm the day before collection and removed by noon the day after the collection.  In the event of a Monday Holiday or severe weather, collection is moved ahead to Tuesday and Wednesday. Holiday schedules are published in the Edinburg Newsletter.

Collection days will be changed for holidays in the following weeks.

Refuse will be collected on Tuesday and Wednesday these weeks unless noted otherwise.

  • Columbus Day - Oct 12th


Recycling Collection
The Town of Edinburg collects recyclables at roadside on Thursdays. Mandatory recyclables are: clean and dry newspapers, clean tin cans (helpful to flatten), clean glass with lids removed, plastic bottles with necks (that can be poured from and no lids).  In addition the town will collect: clean and dry corrugated cardboard, office paper and batteries.  Cardboard must be flattened.  Recyclables must be placed loose in a blue plastic recycling container no larger than 24" by 18"and not more than 15" deep and it should have drainage in the bottom.   Please DO NOT put items in plastic bags. All items must be clean and dry.

* There will be no recycling collection Thursday, Nov 26th, Thanksgiving. The Recycling Center will be closed Friday, Nov 27th.

Transfer, Recycling and Reuse Facility
The Town of Edinburg Transfer, Reuse and Recycling Center is located just beyond the Community Center on Military Road.  The center is open on Saturdays from 9:00am-3:00pm and Fridays from 9:00am-3:00pm from May through October and 12:00 - 3:00 pm November through April.  The center accepts household refuse, recyclables, certain reusable items that do not contain fabric (please check with John Olmstead about specific items).  The center takes refuse and recycling and also accepts car and household batteries, cardboard, tires that are not on rims ($5.00 each and $10.00 each for large truck tires), metal and white goods, magazines, office paper, deposit bottles and cans (donated to scouts) and e-waste such as TV's, computers, and monitors.

The reuse center accepts items in good condition for reuse. Examples include:  furniture & house wares. Items NOT ACCEPTED include: upholstered furniture, clothing, toilets & sinks and electrical items.

Use of the center requires a resident sticker on the vehicle being used. Permits for resident use of the landfill/recycling facility shall be renewed for one year on June 15th for $10.00 per vehicle. The permit is for resident owned vehicles and is NOT TRANSFERABLE to any other vehicle. The sticker will be placed upon the vehicle by a town employee on either the front bumper (drivers side) or the rear window (drivers side). Permits that are damaged or lost will be replaced at no fee on the same vehicle.
